To apply for the South African Airways Technical Apprenticeship Programme 2024, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Medically Fit: Applicants must be in good health and must pass a medical fitness examination.
  • Citizenship: Only South African citizens are eligible to apply.
  • Minimum Age: Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
  • Language Proficiency: The ability to communicate in English.
  • Contract Commitment: Successful applicants must be prepared to sign a learnership contract, committing to the terms and conditions of the apprenticeship.

Educational Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed Grade 12 with below subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Physical Science

These subjects must be passed with at least an E Symbol on Higher Grade, a D Symbol on Standard Grade, or a minimum of Achievement level 4 or equivalent. Alternatively, applicants with a minimum N3 certificate in Mathematics and Engineering Science with a D Symbol are also encouragedto apply.

South African Airways Technical offers a variety of trades for apprenticeship, each designed to aircraft maintenance and operations. The available trades included below:

  1. Aircraft Mechanic: Focuses on maintaining and repairing aircraft systems and components.
  2. Aircraft Spray Painter: Specializes in painting and coating aircraft surfaces.
  3. Aircraft Composite Structures: Involves working with composite materials used in modern aircraft construction.
  4. Aircraft Electrician: Handles the electrical systems and wiring of aircraft.
  5. Aircraft Instrument Technician: Ensures the functionality of aircraft instruments and control systems.
  6. Aircraft Radiotrician: Maintains and repairs aircraft radio systems.
  7. Aircraft Structures Workers: Focuses on the structural integrity of the aircraft’s frame and body.
  8. Aircraft Trimming: Involves working on the interior design and layout of aircraft cabins.
  9. Aircraft Turner Machinist: Specializes in precision machining and creating aircraft components.
  10. Aircraft Welding: Focuses on welding and fabricating metal parts for aircraft.
  11. Aircraft Electro Plater: Handles electroplating and surface treatments for aircraft components.
